How to file your City of LA Business Tax Renewal (Business License)

If you are conducting business in the City of LA you will need a valid business tax certificate. Every year you need to renew it by or before the last day of February.

Here is what you will need:

Your account number - You can locate this on the notice they mail out to you. It is a long number that has 10 digits - 4 digits - 1 digit. (example: 0003456789-0001-9)

Your street number associated with the license - only the address numbers, not the street name etc

Your zip code associated with the license

Your gross receipts for the previous year - here is an article to show you how to calculate that amount: https://help.westsideincometax.com/article/5/how-to-calculate-your-gross-receipts

Go to: https://finance.lacity.gov/

Click on "Online Services"

Click on "Annual Business Tax Renewal"

Enter the above information in the fields

Once your information comes up in their system, click "Continue"

Continue through the next few pages

Enter your gross receipts amount

Please note: the "Creative Artists Activities" portion only applies to performers/entertainers. If you do not engage in these activities as part of your business, leave that portion blank.

Continue to the confirmation and enter the gross receipt amount again.

Click "Generate My Tax Renewal"

Your renewal will be generated. It will show you if any amount is due. Fill out the fields, if you owe you will be prompted to go to their payment page and make your payment.

If you do not owe, click "Accept Return & Continue"

You should see a confirmation page at the end. Make sure to save this page for your records.
